The City Council of Eivissa celebrates the fifth edition of the program Vive la Posidonia with sustainability, biodiversity protection and awareness of the importance of protecting posidonia against climate change, as major challenges.

This year, the initiative will last until December and will consist of five major sections that will offer a wide variety of activities, exhibitions, educational workshops, gastronomy and prizes to raise awareness of the importance of the marine plant.

Thus, there will be photographic immersions, kayak and paddle surf visits, in the 'Nature' section; citizen awareness and ecotourism activities, in the 'Education' section; jewelry exhibitions that interpret Posidonia as a jewel to preserve, in the 'Art' section; menus in restaurants in the municipality, with the proposal 'Gastronomy' and contests on social networks with the 'Posidonia Awards'.

Nature

The 'Nature' section will offer immersions in Posidonia to capture images of the millenary plant, as well as kayak tours and paddle surfing activities on the beaches of ses Figueretes, Talamanca and Platja d'en Bossa. All activities are free and are developed respecting the protocols and safety measures in front of the Covid-19.

The photographic dives will depart from the Marina Botafoc port and the canoe excursions, from the beach of ses Figueretes, and will also have two days dedicated to families with children from 10 to 17 years old and with special needs as there will be expert monitors.

There will also be paddle surfing in Platja d'en Bossa, Talamanca and ses Figueretes.

Art, Gastronomy and awards

In the 'Art' section, Posidonia is claimed as natural and cultural heritage of Eivissa, through the work of jewelers Elisa Pomar and Enric Majoral. In their spaces in the Marina and Vara de Rey, both creators will exhibit the collections in which they show their artistic interpretation of the seabed and their vision of posidonia as a jewel that we must all preserve.

In the 'Gastronomy' section, nine restaurants of the municipality will offer a variety of proposals aimed at all audiences, to give visibility to the unique ecosystem of the underwater meadow, where a great variety of species coexist. The Fishermen's Guild of Eivissa and the guarantee brand 'Peix Nostrum' also join this initiative.

Finally, the Posidonia Awards will be the prizes of the contest 'Viu la Posidonia' in the social networks of Turismo de Eivissa and you can win prizes such as lunch and dinner at restaurants participating in the campaign, hotel nights and jewelry tribute to the ancient plant, as well as T-shirts and masks.
