Our guide to Formentera's beaches and coves
If you have already booked your Ibiza Formentera boat with us, save this article for when you visit the small island of Ibiza and Formentera. We are going to show you the beaches and coves of Formentera that you should not miss.
We will start with the mythical beach of Migjorn, on the south coast, which is actually made up of other smaller coves.
Formentera beaches: Migjorn
A total of five kilometres of coastline, made up of various coves, make up the Migjorn beach on Formentera. It is, by extension, the largest in the whole island.
If we start from the western part of Migjorn beach, we can find the following coves: Mal Pas, Es Racó Fondo, Es Codol Foradat, La Playa des Valencians, Es Arenals and Es Copinar.
This beach or set of Formentera Coves is very popular due to the shallowness of the seabed for tens of metres.
Formentera beaches: Ses Platgetes
Three small coves form Ses Platgetes on Formentera: Platgeta de Prop, Platgeta d'Enmig and Platgeta de més enllà. They are named after the distance that separates them from the centre of Es Caló de Sant Agustí.
The landscape is very pleasant and varied. Dunes, rocks and fine sand are interspersed in the area. In the sea, snorkelling is a real luxury due to the richness of its seabed.
A very good option to end up tasting some local delicacies in this small coastal town.
Formentera beaches: Ses Illetes
Surely it is the beach of Formentera that you have heard the most about. It has been declared on more than one occasion as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Ses Illetes is a must-see for anyone who comes on holiday to the Pitiusas. A paradisiacal landscape formed by white sands and turquoise waters.
For many people, the best beach on Formentera, and probably in the world!
Formentera beaches: Llevant
We could say that it is 'the B side of Illetes' (located on the opposite side), although the Llevant beach on Formentera has nothing to envy many other Caribbean beaches...
It is the perfect alternative to escape the hustle and bustle that is usually present in Ses Illetes in summer or to protect yourself from westerly winds.
It has a complex dune system and forms part of the surroundings of the Ses Salines Natural Park.
Formentera beaches: Cala Saona
A jewel of Formentera. This is how many locals consider it. Cala Saona is a peculiar Formentera beach: it is the only sandy beach in the entire south-west of the island.
Hidden and protected by cliffs, preceded by a wooded area full of pine trees, it is one of the best places to watch the sunset on Formentera.
If you like paddle surfing or kayaking, this is the perfect beach for water sports!
Formentera beaches: Es Pujols
Despite being an urban beach, Es Pujols retains the same charm (crystalline waters, white sand, ...) as all the most hidden coves on Formentera.
With the addition that there are many services around and the town is a few steps away.
Ideal for visiting with the family or for taking a dip while travelling around Formentera.
Formentera beaches: Cavall d'en Borràs
There is no better place on Formentera to contemplate the islets of Es Vedrà and Es Vedranell on Ibiza. Cavall d'en Borràs beach is also the first beach in the Ses Salines Natural Park.
It is not as famous as Illetes, but it does share its crystal clear waters and fine white sand. Its dune system, the Posidonia, the forest of savines that protect it, ... make up this unique wild landscape on the island.
A different beach on Formentera, you'll regret it if you don't know it!
