Green routes and exploring Formentera by bike
There are those who define Formentera as a small island that can be travelled by car in just one morning. Anyone who has walked its paths, has "let themselves be lost" on its paths and has seen the landscape pass at the rhythm of pedalling, knows that in reality it is an island that never ends. This infinite Formentera is connected through its recently opened 32 green routes, intertwined paths that add up to more than 100 kilometres, most of them accessible by bicycle.
Through these routes we can access the exceptional beaches of the island, such as Illetes or Cavall d'en Borràs, unique for its crystal clear waters that give them the appearance of natural swimming pools. Another highly recommended walk is the Es Brolls path, which borders the large saltwater lagoon known as Estany Pudent, a unique place where it is common to observe flamingos, herons and ducks.
Formentera also has a characteristic and unknown rural landscape: dry farming fields, most of them destined for self-consumption by the local families to which they belong, the characteristic propped fig trees, an exclusive feature of the Formentera landscape, whose function is to create small shaded areas for livestock, the traditional dry stone walls? At times, in the plateau of La Mola or in Es Cap de Barbaria one has the feeling that time has stopped just before the irruption of tourism on the island.
